AHDB flags North American export potential for UK meat

Industry Latest

AHDB highlights long-term opportunities for UK red meat and dairy exports to North America, supported by strong consumption trends and improved market access.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has identified growing long-term opportunities for exports of British red meat and dairy products to North America, driven by favourable consumption trends and improved trade access.

In its latest analysis on export prospects, AHDB said higher-than-average meat consumption levels — particularly in the United States and Canada — present clear opportunities for UK exporters. The report also points to projected growth in beef and pork consumption in Mexico, alongside a modest expected increase in US sheepmeat demand over the coming decade.

AHDB noted that recent trade developments further strengthen the outlook. Under the UK–US Economic Prosperity Deal, British exporters can now ship 13,000 tonnes of beef tariff-free to the US, improving competitiveness in a high-value market. The organisation also highlighted the importance of British heritage and provenance, particularly for premium beef and distinctive dairy products such as territorial cheeses, which continue to resonate with North American consumers.

AHDB said market insight and on-the-ground trade engagement remain central to its strategy of supporting levy payers and building a diversified portfolio of export destinations for the UK red meat and dairy sectors.
